First thing yesterday morning, up the chair and blue patches. Not only that but stars visible the previous night. The ridging was not a welcomed sight.

Eventually that broke down and we did have some snow flurries, 1 cm at 1560 meters by 14:30 hrs and 1 cm at 1650 meters by 14:30 hrs. In these shots there is advection occurring in the clouds close to the snow surface. For the definition of advection click here: Wikipedia

At 2284 meters the temperature was -9, winds were 35-60 KPH from the ESE. Max gust last night 80 KPH.  At 1650 meters the temperature was -4, 9 cm of new snow fell there overnight.  In the valley it is 0. Observations taken at 06:00 hrs.

For the forecast the front will pass through the region today giving way to a high pressure system that may last for awhile. Yes, an omega block may occur for some time with mostly sunny skies and at times unsettled conditions. For today we could receive 1-3 cm of snow, flurries this morning diminishing by this afternoon and clearing by tonight.

Found some interesting layers yesterday depending on what elevation and aspect you were on.

Layer of stellar's, soft slab easily released South aspects late yesterday afternoon and then at lower elevations a temperature crust firming up below tree line, East aspects.

Soft slab interface.

The moist top 2 cm was forming a crust.

Some fine stellar's sitting on a tree branch!

The image here certainly makes it look like we should get more snow, and the ridging looks like its well to the north east  of us .

We will be seeing the large light in the sky for a while!!
