June 12, 2013

Thanks to Steven Jones for submitting this avalanche photo, Panorama Ridge, Garabaldi Park.

Image attached.  As seen from Empetrum Peak on June 9th.  I'm not sure when the avalanche occurred.
Someone else took a photo from The Black Tusk area.
It seems to suggest that the avalanche was triggered by a cornice failure.
Cheers,
Steve

Another dusting of new snow in the alpine.

At 2240 meters the temperature was -2.5, winds were 5-15 Kph from the SE. At 1550 meters the temperature was +2. In the valley it was + 7. Observations taken at 07:00 hrs this AM.

For the forecast a weak upper low is in our zone bringing mostly cloudy skies with light precipitation. There is a chance of some breaks with this very unsettled weather pattern which will continue into Friday. A weak upper ridge will build on Friday with drier conditions for Saturday and Sunday. Another low pressure system is expected early next week. At this time it is looking like a sunny weekend!!?
