    Sc and Xe produced size 1-1.5 avalanches in Blackcomb Glacier yesterday morning.

    Fracture line at the top of Ladies First, Blackcomb Glacier.

    Visibility in the glacier yesterday was challenging.


    Staying near rocks or in the trees makes for a much more pleasant experience.




Weather observations for March 5, 2014, taken at 06:00 Hrs.

2240 meters        -4, winds were 20-25 KPH from the S
2180 meters     -3.5, winds were 30-45 KPH from the SSE
1860 meters        -3, winds were 10-25 KPH from the S
1835 meters        -3, winds were 10-25 KPH from the SSE
1650 meters     -2.5, 5 cm of new snow, 7 cm in 24 hours, Base 225 cm
1550 meters     -2.5, 5 cm of new snow, 6 cm in 24 hours, Base 177 cm
  660 meters        -1, Valley Temp, .3 mm of precip yesterday


For the forecast, a moist westerly flow will continue today as a weak warm front passes through our zone. Expect light precipitation this morning diminishing later this afternoon.  For Thursday another stronger warm front will bring a mix of cloud and light precipitation, prior to a brief weak ridge of high pressure for Friday. As of now there is a cold front forecasted to move through on Saturday. Guesstimates 8-10 cm by Thursday morning, 4-6 cm by Friday morning, 3-5 by Saturday morning, 15-18 cm by Sunday morning.


In the corridor yesterday there were size 1-2 avalanches observed Na, Sc, Sa, and Xe.

   Looks like most of the moisture is heading South. Series of warm fronts with each one a bit stronger.
