    Howe Sound Saturday evening.

Stratus layer early Sunday morning, did lift and dissipate by mid morning.

Weather observations for August 18, 2014; taken at 04:00 Hrs.

2180 meters      +13, Winds were 5-10 KPH from the SSW
1835 meters      +13, Winds were 0-5 KPH from the E
1550 meters      +14, Relative humidity 70 %
660 meters      +13, Valley Temperature, Max Temp Yest was +27.4, Trace of rain

For the forecast, a fairly nice day today, prior to a short wave upper level trough moving in this evening into Tuesday with a strong North Westerly flow aloft. Marine layer should influence our area with mostly cloudy skies in the mornings and sunny periods as they disipate for Wednesday through Friday. Another ridge is forecasted to build into the area by Saturday. There is a chance of some shower development during the forecast period but its likely to be fairly dry during the week and slightly cooler.

Northerly flow for most of the week.

Inconsistencies in the models make it hard to determine precipitation amounts for the week.

Stratus layer along the coast spreading into the valleys Sunday morning August 17, 2014.

Moisture should slip down the coast by Wednesday, but may not be very juicy.

Weather observations for August 15, 2014; taken at 05:00 Hrs.

2180 meters        +10, Winds were 3-8 KPH from the S
1835 meters        +10, Winds were 0-5 KPH from the S
1550 meters        +13, Relative Humidity 97 %
660 meters        +14, Valley Temperature, Max Temp Yest +25, 1.0 mm of precip yesterday

We had a trace of rain on August 13, .2 mm on August 14. Still dry!!

For the forecast, more of the same, a mix of sun and cloud with the chance of some showers. Dry warmer weather likely for Sunday into Monday. Still some inconsistency in the models, we certainly missed out on any significant precipitation. An upper trough is in the making for Wednesday into Thursday with cooler temperatures and more cloud.

Satellite image from Thursday at 17:00 Hrs.

Big picture looks like more sun and cloud with the odd shower.

As of 07:00 Hrs this am we have scattered high cloud, unlimited visibility and smoke to the North.

For the Forecast, high pressure aloft with a low level Northerly flow will bring warm temperatures and sunny skies for today. The high will shift inland later today bringing a  Southerly flow which will usher in a change in the weather pattern as an upper low moves in for Tuesday through Thursday, bringing unsettled weather (sunny periods, clouds, and showers). Typhoon Halong and hurricane Genevieve will pump moisture and energy into the North Pacific allowing cooler temperatures and some welcome precipitation. As of now there is some anticipated ridging to develop for Friday or Saturday, back to nice weather with seasonable temperatures Sunday into early next week. Models are not clear on what will happen at the end of the week, so more on that in the next post.

1550 meters        +9, Relative humidity was 88%
660 meters      +11, Valley Temperature, Max Temp Yest was +25.7

Full Moon, referred to as the super moon in August is this Sunday.

For the Forecast, slightly unsettled for today with a mix of sun and cloud. A weaker onshore flow will result in warmer temperatures over the weekend as the upper level ridge builds for Saturday into Monday. Looks like another amazing stretch of nice weather into early next week. Groundhog Day!

Satellite image from Thursday around 17:00 hrs.

High pressure dominates for the weekend.

Low pressure is losing the battle, high seems to be winning out.

Typhoon Halong (near Japan) and Super typhoon Genevive (Central Pacific) have been causing inconsistencies in the models, so far they do not pose a threat for a major change in the local pattern.
