    Challenging visibility in the afternoon in the alpine.

Weather Observations for January 9, 2019  taken at 06:00 Hours.

    As of 07:00 Hrs this am we have obscured skies, limited visibility and it is snowing 1 cm per hr.


FORECAST:

Low pressure continues to send moisture our way in a Southerly flow aloft transitioning into a Southwesterly flow aloft by this afternoon. Maximum temperatures occurred early this am and since have begun to descend. -1.4 at 2240 meters, +0.3 at 1860 meters, 0 at 1550 meters. These maximums were a short spike in time so it snowed pretty much the whole time. Moderate snowfall with the FL hovering in the 1600 meter range for today into tomorrow morning. Light snow for Thursday with the FL, hovering in the 1500 meter range. A warm upper ridge will build Friday into the weekend with unsettled weather and warm temperatures. There are a few weak systems expected for Saturday and Sunday but likely just a mix of sun and cloud. Guesstimates: 25-35 cm by Thursday morning above 1300 meters, 5-10 cm by Friday morning in the alpine.

    Locally, Sz 1.5 Sc Poop Chutes yesterday. Sz 2 accidental cornice drop Disease Ridge Monday.



    INFORMATION & OBSERVATIONS:

    It continues to snow!!!

    Nice conditions on Tuesday, chutes are skiing well.

    Cornices are ripe, not a good idea to put them in the mix!!

    Between 06:00 Hrs and 14:00 hrs we received 3 cm of new snow on Tuesday.

Is there any more information or a report on Chris' death this past weekend? I have heard some stories but I am sure we are all curious to hear exactly what happened so we can learn from this tragedy.
