Early Season Snow Pack 2011

Jeff van Driel Photo Observations were taken on Triconi November 14 at 1750 m, 90 cm hs CTM 12 rp down 50 cm. CTH 25 pc down 70 cm.
October brought some early snow with periods of cool clear weather resulting in several crusts developing in the snowpack. Data is lacking this time of the year until Whistler Blackcomb is opened for the season. Many people have been touring and observations have been taken. This picture was taken on November 3 on Whistler just at tree line on a north aspect. The upper layer was 20 cm of low density snow on a 1 cm crust which formed around October 30. Below is a laminar crust with facets in between. An easy compression test on facets was noted on the upper crust.
