    AVALANCHE ACTIVITY:

    Warm temperatures release rock fall as well!

    Locally, no new avalanches were observed yesterday.

    YESTERDAY:

    Overcast Friday morning but a relatively dry air mass.

    A few snow flurries during the morning.

    Skiing & Boarding was again good, considering the temperatures.

    Lifting cloud, advection during the morning.

    Later in the day, overcast and snowing at dusk.

    Friday afternoon. Weak frontal band!

Weather Observations for April 21, 2018  taken at 06:00 Hours.

2180 meters     -6, Winds were 40-70 KPH S  --Whistler Peak
1835 meters     -4, Winds were 25-40 KPH SE--Roundhouse
1660 meters    - 3, 10 cm of new, 10 cm in 24 hrs  Base 324 cm --Pig Alley

  660 meters    +3, Valley Temp, Max Temp Yesterday was +11.0, 0.2 mm of precip recorded yest

    As of 07:00 Hrs this am we have broken skies and variable visibility.


FORECAST:

A weak dry upper trough will move through this morning in a Southwesterly flow aloft. The FL will rise to around 1500 meters by this afternoon with unsettled weather and a clearing trend through the day. An upper ridge begins to build Sunday with some cloud Sunday morning dissipating by the afternoon with sunny skies and the FL rising too 1800 meters.Monday the ridge continues to dominate with some cloud development but with sunny breaks and the FL rising to 2800 meters. This pattern continues into at least Friday with mostly sunny skies and the FL eventually rising to 3500 meters by Thursday. Dry and warm, be sure to bring your sun screen!
Guesstimates: trace-1 cm by Sunday morning, 0 cm for Monday into Thursday.

    Remember if your coming back from touring that there is a lot of terrain closed for construction.

    AVALANCHE ACTIVITY:

    Sz 1 Sa from Wednesday afternoon.

    Na Sz 1 wet loose from Wednesday afternoon.

    Fresh Debris from Na wet cycle Wednesday afternoon. Yesterday, no new avalanche activity obs.

    Overcast for most of Thursday afternoon, point release  from Wednesday.


    YESTERDAY:

    A few clouds around Thursday morning.

    Clouds built during the morning with a thin high layer of cloud.

    Flat light for most of the day.

    A fairly grey day.

    Still looking like winter in the alpine and at tree line.

    Later in the afternoon.

    Lenticulars and cumulus to the South.

    Thursday afternoon.

    Big picture Thursday, Front will move in from the North.

    As of 07:00 Hrs this am we have overcast skies, variable visibility and it is snowing lightly..




FORECAST:

A warm front with a trailing cold front will push through today in a Westerly flow aloft. The FL will slowly fall from 1500 meters this am to around 1000 meters by tonight. We can expect an increase in cloud cover with some periods of light snow today, with an impulse of moderate snow tonight into Saturday morning, depending on how the cold front tracks. The front will switch to a dry upper level trough for Saturday with periods of light snow in the morning, becoming unsettled in the afternoon with a ridge of high pressure bringing clear skies by Saturday night.  The FL will rise to 1500 meters on Saturday. The ridge builds Sunday with mostly sunny skies and warming temperatures. The FL on Sunday will reach 1800+ meters with a trend to reach 3800 meters by Wednesday. No change expected until next Thursday.
Guesstimates: 5-15 cm by Saturday morning, 1-3 cm by Sunday morning, 0 cm expected Monday thru Wednesday. Sunscreen will be needed!!!

    Breakable suncrust on SW facing slopes Thursday morning.

    Black Bear Tracks.

    There is alot of debris in the bowls.

    Chateau golf course is slowly getting green.

    Old pinwheel with some new ones on Thursday.

    Looking spring like in the Valley.

    Awesome sledding still to be had. Careful with warming temperatures next week!!
