AVALANCHE ACTIVITY:


   Update on the Italian Hotel Avalanche in the article section at the btm of the page.       Net Pic

    Avalanche control on WB ysterday produced Sz 1-3 Xc, Xh, Xe, Sc, + Sa.

    Size 3 natural avalanches observed in the area yesterday occurring during the storm cycle.



    YESTERDAY:


    Early Friday morning, January 20, 2017.

    Strong Southerly winds in the am.

    Snow was moving around.

    Rainbow Chute looking very inviting.

Weather Observations for January 21, 2017: taken at 06:00 Hours.

1860 meters   -5, Winds were     0-5 KPH S     --Rendevous
1835 meters   -5, Winds were     0-5 KPH E     --Roundhouse
1650 meters  -4,  1 cm  of new snow, 1 cm in 24 hrs,   232 cm Base, RH 100%  --Pig Alley
1550 meters  -4,  Trace of new snow, Trace in 24 hrs, 160 cm Base, RH   97%  --Catskinner 
  660 meters  -1, Valley Temp, Max Temp Yesterday was +3.0, 0.5 mm of Precip recorded yest

    As of 07:00 Hrs this am we have overcast skies, variable visibility and it is snowing very lightly.



FORECAST:

A weakening upper low will bring overcast skies to the area today with light snow flurries and a FL maxing out at around 1000 meters. The flow for the next 2 days will be Southerly. Sunday will also be unsettled with some cloudy periods and some isolated snow flurries. High pressure will bring unsettled weather to the area next week with periods of clear skies. Enjoy the weather. Guesstimates: 4-6 cm by Sunday morning, 2-4 cm by Monday morning.

OBSERVATIONS:

    Looking South Friday morning.

    Wind swept glazed rock.

    We received 1 meter of snow over the storm cycle at 1650 meters, more in the alpine.
