    AVALANCHE ACTIVITY:

    No new avalanches were observed locally yesterday.

    Several injured after avalanche hits car in Switzerland. Story below.                           Blick Image

    Looking like a nice Gaper Day.


    YESTERDAY:

    Early Sunday morning. Some who were early got some decent turns before it started raining.

    Visibility on the hill yesterday was difficult.

    Large group of sightseers under Excelerator Lift.

    Visibility at 2240 meters. Very moist at times yesterday morning.

    Dried out later in the day but still cloudy.  16:30 Hrs.

    Unsettled in the evening.

    Ended up being an awesome evening in the valley.

    Sunday afternoon.

Weather Observations for May 21, 2018  taken at 06:00 Hours.

2240 meters    +3, Winds were 0-5 KPH N     --Horstman Hut
1860 meters    +3, Winds were 0-5 KPH ESE--Rendevous
1550 meters    +2, 0 cm of new snow, 0 cm in 24 hrs  Base 120 cm --Catskinner

  660 meters    +9, Valley Temp, Max Temp Yesterday was +17.2, 2.4 mm of precip recorded yest

    As of 07:00 hrs yhis am we have clear skies above 1700 meters with unlimited visibility.


FORECAST:

Unsettled weather as  an upper level ridge begins to build into the area in a Northwest flow aloft.
The FL will go up to 3600 meters by the end of the day. We will see the lingering cloud from yesterdays trough eventually dissipate and should see sunny skies later this morning. Ridge strengthens for Tuesday and it looks like it will be an awesome week for biking, hiking, and anything else you want to do in Whistler. May post tomorrow but its been a long season and time to take a rest from this morning ritual.

    AVALANCHE ACTIVITY:

    No new avalanche activity observed yesterday.



    YESTERDAY:

    Awesome Saturday Morning.

    Some patches of Blue in the morning.

    Clouds got thicker as the day progressed.

    Just after noon.

    Ceiling started dropping around 15:00 Hrs.

    Started raining at around 16:00 hrs.

    19:30 hrs, raining in the valley.

    Saturday afternoon.

Weather Observations for May 20, 2018  taken at 06:00 Hours.

2240 meters     +1, Winds were 20-40 KPH S  --Horstman Hut
1860 meters     +3, Winds were 15-20 KPH SE--Rendevous
1550 meters     +4, 11 mm of precip recorded in 24 hours  Base 123 cm --Catskinner

  660 meters   +10, Valley Temp, Max Temp Yesterday was +18.8, 7.5 mm of precip recorded yest

    As of 07:00 Hrs this am we have overcast skies and variable visibility.


FORECAST:

A weakening upper trough will bring overcast skies and showers this am in a Southwest flow aloft.
By this afternoon we should see unsettled weather with a mix of sun and cloud. The FL will rise to
3000 meters by tonight. An upper ridge will begin to build on Monday with some residual cloud left over from today dissipating by the afternoon. The ridge strengthens by Tuesday for sunny skies into Friday.
Certainly rained more than I thought yesterday, you just never can tell sometime!
Guesstimates: 1-3 mm by Monday morning, trace-1 mm by  Tuesday morning.

    AVALANCHE ACTIVITY:

    SAR Team had to rescue tourists caught in an avalanche on the Vatnajokull Glacier, Iceland.

    Yesterday, no new avalanche activity observed.


    YESTERDAY:

    08:00 Hrs on Friday morning.

    Started off a nice sunny day.

    Clouds did move in.

    By mid morning looking North.

    By noon it was cloudy.

    Darker clouds mid afternoon.

    Almost felt like it was going to rain, but flat layer with no convection.

    Later in the afternoon.

2240 meters    +4, Winds were 5-10 KPH N--Horstman Hut
1860 meters    +7, Winds were 5-10 KPH N--Rendevous
1550 meters    +7, 0 cm of new snow, 0 cm in 24 hrs  Base 130 cm --Catskinner

  660 meters    +8, Valley Temp, Max Temp Yesterday was +22.8, 0.0 mm of precip recorded yest

    As of 07:00 Hrs we have overcast skies and unlimited visibility.


FORECAST:

Unsettled this morning with clouds thickening as the day progresses, a weak upper low will bring mostly cloudy skies in a Northerly flow switching to a Southerly flow aloft this am. There is a chance of some light precipitsatoip today but the air mass has been fairly dry over the past couple of days. A weak upper trough will bring unsettled weather  tomorrow as well with a chance of some isolated showers. The high rebuilds for Monday and sticks around until the end of the weak when we may get another change.
Guesstimates: trace-3 mm by Sunday morning, trace-2 mm by Monday morning.
